That Bird

See he is back and now properly identified as as A Welsh Redpoll Llinos Flodiog

and this will no doubt please John Gray of Trelawnyd in darkest Wales who is

very fond of birds!

Every time I clip my beard or have a haircut the clippings are put

outside in the garden for the wildlife to use as nesting materials.

  2. Dickie birds are free from the ridiculous bureaucracy and only 100 miles from here to there :)

  3. Your redpoll is similar to the Common Redpolls we have in eastern Canada. What a great idea to leave hair out for nest making. I hadn't thought of that and will do so from now on.

  4. We always put our dog's haircuts (and ours), out in the garden too. I haven't found any nests with the hair in them though. but I have found nests in the past with the hair from a cows tail making up most of it. very cool.

  5. Their are the small and short legged creatures that use hair in their nests, like mice for example :)

  6. Quite a colourful bird!
We line our gardens with hair clippings - it's supposed to keep the deer away. However, I find my dog's hair spread about the yard, too. She is as blonde as I am and sheds her hair in clumps. It often looks like a stuffed toy has been torn apart in the yard ...
I would imagine the tufts are taken and used to line nests of some sort.
The ospreys camped out below the house prefer to swoop above the tops of the poplar trees and snap off branches with their talons in order to repair their nests. It's quite amazing to watch!
