We have seen these feathered friends feeding twice now on the dandelion seeds in our front garden and have been unable to identify them, we seek your assistance ? (What they are not is goldfinches)

I'm not very good with birds, Mel, but they look like a kind of finch to me. And yes, inconsiderate parking indeed. Did you see them fly in? :)

DeleteI'm no expert, but we did a little research and it might be a Chipping Sparrow.

DeleteThey do look like chipping sparrows. Quite common here.
ReplyDeleteChipping Sparrow's, yes I took a look at them but these birds have a dark around the eye near the beak and down the throat - it has also been suggested to me that they might be fledgling Redpolls.

Can't help you with the birds, but they are very pretty. I quite often tuck a note under someone's windscreen pointing out their inconsiderate parking as it is one of my pet hates. But I also know people who do it on purpose to protect theiri precious cars! Grrrrr xxx

I can see why you might consider it a wintry scene Dale: the colour of the sky and last years rose hips still present on the bush, due to my style of gardening or rather lack of :) !
