IRELAND'S LITTLE PEOPLE

Going through some of unpublished photo’s that I took at the Woodfield Market last month. I came across one of them which gave me confirmation of what I have always thought and could never prove.‘The Little People’[Fairies] always wear the costumes of the present time and because they do so, they are rarely seen today.

Can you spot him ?

Look to where the arrow is pointing

I have been spending a lot of time in recent days studying media reports, from various sources, on what is happening with our nearest neighbours, those on the island that lies between Ireland and Europe.

10 reasons to be cheerful - Not

It seems to me that there is an antithesis in the association of Mrs May and the DUP because the accepted social rights of individuals within England, Wales and Scotland differ greatly from those of the DUP.

The D.U.P.
Led by Arlene Foster.

About the DUP
With a third of its members drawn from the late Rev Ian Paisley’s staunchly Protestant Free Presbyterian church, it is unsurprising that recent research found more than half of the Democratic Unionist party “would mind a lot” if a close relative married someone from a different christian sect.

THE LEADER OF DUP is Arlene Foster and their membership includes:

Ian Paisley Jr. who in 2005 described gay marriage as “immoral, offensive and obnoxious.”

Gregory Campbell, Sir Jeffrey Donaldson, Nigel Dodds, Paul Girvan and
Emma Little-Pengelly.
Little-Pengelly, the 38-year old MP for South Belfast, was endorsed last month by an organisation linked to the Ulster Defence Association, a loyalist paramilitary group.

David Simpson, MP for Upper Bann since 2005, is strongly opposed to abortion. He has described pro-choice supporters as “anti-democratic, anti-libertarian and anti-human rights”.

Gavin Robinson, Jim Shannon, Gregory Campbell and
Sammy Wilson, MP for East Antrim, a former lord mayor of Belfast who has said he thinks climate change is a con.

Personally I would be very loathe to even have a cup of tea with any of them and I do wonder if Mrs May has any understanding of what these people are like.

  2. JACK L said Hi Mel,

Very interesting, ..I agree with all your points. Angela knows all about the DUP and what they stand for, and she couldn't believe the Tories would stoop that low to cling to power. An amazing resurgence for Labour..and for Corbyn who has been fighting for his political life these past two years!! I hope change is afoot ..Trump is making capitalist USA appear for what ( in many ways what it has become)
..many of us who live alongside them know, There's good people there too,,,just don't see them as often !

and a Fairy in your pic...? I wouldn't have noticed, how did you notice it?

    1. Thanks Jack, it is amazing how low some ego led politicians will stoop to retain perceived power.....

I noticed the fairy the second time around and I suppose it is because I am a bit of an annoying nit picker :-)

  3. What fun to spot the fairy, Mel! As for your other points, I can only shudder. I pray the British people don't allow this alliance to be the one that underpins the next government. I watch with concern!

As to the rest of the blog. I really could not sit idly by without mentioning these awful people.

  4. I rather think her attitude at the moment is 'any port in a storm' but do agree with you
that it is a bad choice. What are we coming to?

    1. Thank you for commenting Pat and I dread to think of what the end result of this blatant mismanagement
will serve upon the UK. Unlike the historic conflicts of the yesteryears, there are no international forces to blame for these predicaments.

  5. Am I ever glad that I do not watch TV, friend Heron, because I am busy hilling my potatoes now ... The deer ate all of my peas ... Oh, well, at least I will have one of them deer for meat cum hunting season ... Other than that, me think, any would be politian should be made to live in the bush for 1 year ... cuz that would either break em or make em. Love, cat.

    1. A very wise suggestion Cat, for that would definitely put a bit of common sense into their woolly heads.

  6. Many years ago when I was young - very young - I was going out with a Staff nurse in Liverpool from Co Cork who was, of course, RC. I was brought up in Liverpool: a city divided along Protestant and RC lines. You made the statement that "more than half of the Democratic Unionist party “would mind a lot” if a close relative married someone from a different christian sect." In Liverpool the RC church and 99% of their congregation completely disowned and worse anyone who married a protestant. The Orange Order took the opposite view. (The C of E was to peely-wally to object to anything). I didn't approve then and I don't approve now. Mind you now I have no religious belief anyway. The only thing I would guess at is that it will all end in tears.

    1. Yes, yes I do understand however, that was then and times have changed the people in these islands have matured somewhat; tolerance is the byword. The flat earth society is a joke. I understand that there has already been tears ..... spilt milk!
      Thanks for your comments Graham.

    2. I thought, Heron, that your original point was that "more than half of the Democratic Unionist party “would mind a lot” if a close relative married someone from a different christian sect." which would seem to imply that for many people times have not changes. I was simply making the point that it applies on both sides of the divide.

    3. I quite understood what you wrote Graham.
In my experience the DUP are very much fixed in their own ideology. Whereas the others do appear to be moving forward. Here in the Republic for example the majority voted for Marriage Equality.

  7. We've had several bright and shining(not) examples of people that with any sense of wisdom would have said their leave to their high position and let someone else try, but instead have clutched the strings of power with such ferocity that the only thing left is to make good satire of them!! I don't know much about DUP, but they sound a bit behind in their thinking. I fear the UK have some political mazes to manage, but we all hope for the best because we really have a lot worse troubles in the world to deal with. The little elf hiding in the bushes, hm, if you say so, dear Melvyn, if you say so! Thank you for this very interesting post!

    1. Solveig you are totally spot on and correct for Satire is all and everything in situations as the UK is facing.
Actually, I thought that the little Elf tied in quite well :-)

    ...... Ludicrous situation .....
Theresa May strides on and the trembling Tories are too terrified to stop her.
The election cost the taxpayer £130 million.

    1. Thank you Annie. There was no need to have an election Mrs May already had a majority, it was only her foolish pride and arrogance that made her do so. Serves her damn well right for being a blithering idiot.
That money could have been put to better uses.
