  2. I don't understand why people are so against paying for clean water, Heron. Ireland needs millions of Euros to replace it's ancient infrastructure and I can't see their being any alternative to this government after the last government bankrupt Ireland. I would like a socialist Green party that campaigns for rural issues.

    1. Thanks for your views Dave. The Green Party shared power in the last government and basically all they did was to raise the taxes. Money raised from the water charges will not be used to improve the system. It will be used to line the pockets of Irish Water executives and whats left will be swallowed by the government coffers and in any case we have already paid for the leaky infrastructure to be replaced, so why should we pay twice ?
And the demo on 10th Dec is not solely about water it is about the dis-satisfaction with the cronyism and corruption. That both Fine Gael and Fine Fáil and Labour have perpetrated upon and deceived the electorate over the years. Enough is a enough!

  3. So true. So sad.

The Green Party? I would have thought once that I could have had a kinship with them. However after seeing them in power I realised that their heads were so far up their organic backsides that they could never see what peoples real social issues were. Their enviornmental stance was so unbending that it's possible that they did actual harm to the enviornment by turning people against "Green Issues". Putting them in government was like asking a short tempered, half blind, half deaf genius to teach a class of ten year old children.

    2. Completely agree with you Tony - well said.
I too once thought that perhaps the Greens would make some difference however when real issues were at stake all I heard was "our hands are tied".
In my experience they are not a socialist party and we cannot look to them when it comes to the real issues of Ireland today - poverty, homelessness, healthcare, unemployment, rural isolation and suicide.
As for paying for clean water it is one tax too far when there are children who go to school hungry.
We just do not have the money!

  4. Great poem - lets take inspiration from Iceland who had the people responsible for crashing their economy arrested and extradited back to Iceland (8 arrested in London I think) to face criminal charges.

    1. Thank you for your comment, I really cannot see anyone being taken to task unless we get a more progressive left wing government.

  5. Wonderful to see politics spoken so well and honestly and in poetry. We have become not just a nation but a world of pleasers and forget to think about what really matters. I think behaviours need to change where we go back to looking after eachother rather than caring about keeping up with the Jones. We need to be honest with ourselves as to what we really want and then strive for it. Our Government is the elected leaders of the country and these people haven't been doing that job. I do think that people haven't voted in a correct or educated manner for a long time and nor have there been alternatives as pointed out in the poem. Good luck!! I'll be thinking of you from down here.
