A 3,500-acre wind farm in in northern California may become the first renewable energy project in the US to be issued a permit to kill eagles under a proposal by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. The plan would allow the Shiloh IV Wind Project’s 50 wind turbines to kill up to five golden eagles over a five-year period in exchange for taking measures to protect large birds, including retrofitting power poles to avoid electrocutions. "The bottom line is a permit will help preserve eagles," said Scott Flaherty, the deputy assistant regional director of external affairs for the Fish and Wildlife Service. The report will now go through a 45-day public comment period.
Q: Sounds like double talk to me ?
As we would say in Scotland ; that's a bit 'heelan'
ReplyDeletethere is no sense in it at all.
How right you are Margaret!
DeleteTypical California bureaucratic babble.
DeleteFrom a spiritual viewpoint, with the eagle being a symbol for the United States, this looks somewhat like a suicide attempt to me...
ReplyDeleteMartin, you may very well be correct :-)
DeleteSounds as crazy as the badger cull over here! Money grabbing fools...shame on all of them.
ReplyDeleteSuzie, You are Spot On !

ReplyDeleteThis is pure american B S......
who said eagles are as dumb as people
What unbelievably twisted logic! I am shocked at this shameful excuse for what is simply murder.
ReplyDeleteAgreed , it is incredibly crass.
DeleteThis makes me very sad. Why anyone thinks they have the right to kill any animal is beyond me. But does this mean that up to 5 birds can be 'accidently' killed without prosecution as surely the eagle is a protected bird? Still not good but a bit more logical x
ReplyDeleteWhat it means is that they built these turbines without doing any research in regards to the birds flight path, which is what is supposed to be done.
DeleteThen they compound the situation by issuing a permit to kill the eagles & call it bird preservation which is totally crass - in my opinion.
I absolutely agree with you, ridiculous. The RSPA have been putting up quite a fight about the wind turbines that the government are giving planning permission for willy nilly. In fact they have been quite a powerful opposition x
DeleteExcellent !
DeleteThere are two thousand enormous wind turbines planned for over here and quite lot of opposition too. Cameron mooted the idea to the Mayo Muppet Enda Kelly he being the nodding donkey that he is agreed.... o excuse me while I swear !****'s
For Kelly please read as Kenny!
DeleteI don't think that double-talk was invented here, but the U.S. has definitely perfected it to a fine art. Such idiotic happenings these days that just run right over the top of many innocents in the animal world, as well as human. It is far past time to wake up and "smell the coffee. . . . "
