PEACE IN THE FOREST

There are places which call to me and attract me by an indefinable quality. Sometimes it is a certain type of light that flows over the landscape or a peaceful secludedness, a stillness in the air. It might occur in a forest, on a river bank, on a mound in a field or in my chair at home.

Copper Beech, this one is roughly 150 years of age in Coole Park, Gort, Co Galway
it is known as The Autograph Tree.

Perhaps a junior Stag

I was lucky that he turned to face me

A King Stag, isn't he wonderful ?

A particular ambience arrives when I sit sometimes, it is as though a large unseen pair of wings carries me away into a different state of being and I wander amongst the clouds, seeing a myriad other creatures and beings who inhabit a place where harmony reigns. Thus I return refreshed and knowing…

This me

Coole Park is one of those places, The Beara Peninsula and The Burren are two others although they do not complete my list of special areas.

Perhaps you also have special places that call out to you ?

  4. Many of the special places which call out to me are places i am about to leave since I lost my dearest farmer and the farm is being sold - hopefully I shall have memories which will sustain me.

    1. Am sure that those memories will sustain you and that you will find new special places on your journeys through the Dales Pat.
Thank you for taking the time to write a comment in what must be a busy and a doubly distressing time for you.

  6. Hi Mel - how sad the house came down ... yet the forest remains ... while that magnificent copper beech tree is a sight to behold. Love the quote her books near her mind, her trees near her heart - the Gregory's must have been inspiring ... so sad about her son. Interesting to see and hear about Coole Park ... thanks for sharing. I'd go to Cornwall - exactly where I'm not sure .. but I love it! Cheers Hilary

    1. Thank you Hilary; Yes I agree about the demolition of the house that was a pity, on the other hand it had fallen into disrepair. It would have been very costly to have repaired it and running costs would also have been high too. Lots of similar large houses over here, some in ruins and others not - symbols of oppressive class rule.

  8. Magnificent forest, magnificent with that purple tree, we have one almost like it here. Serenity and peace, I heard an Elvis song when I saw this entry; Peace in the valley......the stags are very beautiful. There are plenty of them on that island I went to, last year I held a sermon that nobody noticed because of the deer calmly placing themselves in view, four lovely stags. These were very nice and the one sitting by the water is,,,oh no dear, that's you Heron!!! Is that picture taken by mrs H? Lovely!!!

  10. Like the others I think that copper beech is magnificent. I don't think that I could ever identify one special place because there are so many places where I feel completely absorbed and at home and at peace with the world. Many of them are very ordinary places but they are all remote or at least rural. My home country of Scotland or my half-home of New Zealand both are full of such places.
