A FRANCISCAN GARDEN

On a sunny May day we visit our friends who are Franciscans and after much talk in the kitchen, we walk in their garden and hear poetry being read amongst nature. I find myself captivated by what I see and take photos to share with you.

She meditates barefoot in sunshine

A floral mound

The path may be narrow but
never straight.

Wild garlic among the Bluebells

A lonely Dandelion

Sunlight Grass

Wallflowers among the weeds, don't look out of place.

The skirts of fairies perhaps ?

Even darkness has it's place

  1. Hope your weather is better than here - cold snap again.

Lovely photos - jolted me into thinking of cutting the lawn (just thinking, mind you)...

    1. I try not to cut the grass until the large grasses have made their seed heads. For it just seems so pointless to me... depriving the wild life the birds and other flying creatures from having a feed

    2. That would be impossible on our lawn - it takes an hour even in the ride-on lawnmower. We also have the huge common outside, which is only cut once a year for silage. I cut a path through it for the dog walkers.

    1. It is very peaceful and a bit like being at home only larger gardens and the building is too.

  6. Hi Mel - what beautiful photos - as well as such a serene looking garden to be in .. understandable I guess as it's own by Franciscans. As Sue above says .. lovely descriptions ... the dappled sunlight, the fairy skirts ... it sounds as though you had a restful re-invigorating day .. cheers Hilary

    1. I think that if anyone overheard the discussions that we have with the Brothers that they would be, to use a catholic word Mortified ! For the subjects range from Irish Mythology to folk Magic and Folklore, all of which they are well versed in :)

  8. Ouch, you did it again, just like those small steps some pictures ago, now it's that path among the trees, quite irresistable. Triggers my imagination those paths. The long and winding road or just that small path. Very nice pictures, you can actually smell the flowers and feel the softness of sun and breeze to your skin. Fransiscans would clearly know all about that, wouldn't they? Solitude and tranquility in the midst of Gods creation. Thank you for sharing!!!

    1. I think if you saw the natural shapes in the pieces of bog oak, that have collected over the years it would tell you a lot about their spirituality which is very earthy.
