'A Terrible Beauty is Born'

  1. Hi Mel - history is an interesting and informative topic ... I know little of this time in Ireland's history - Military Law was barbaric, but a sign of those times ... so much has changed in our thinking now. Today we have War still - devastating ones ... and ones that have moved the goalposts of our understanding ...

With peace and hope - Hilary

    1. Thank you Hilary.
It would be good wouldn't it if no more lives were wasted on battlefields and if politicians were able to formulate long lasting peaceful solutions ?

  2. Very sobering reading through the list of names of those who died, but not forgotten. There are two men on there with the surname of Darcy, not a common name but the next village to me is called Tolleshunt Darcy. I am now off to do some research xxx

    1. I felt that both the List and the Proclamation were quite sufficient on their own , without me adding anything extra Fran. Quite a number of the leaders of the Rising were born or had their origins in the UK. For instance Patrick Pearce's father was from Birmingham and brought his skills as a monumental mason with him to Ireland.
It will be interesting to learn the results of your research Fran, so good luck with that.
