An Old Boy's Toy

I have always wanted one of these handy garden saws ever since I saw a friend of mine, Christopher, using one years ago. He had purchased his when abroad (I can’t remember where) all I know is that his was not cheap

So yesterday while shopping in Lidl I spotted the old boys toy of my dreams, all for a snip - €2.99 and it looks exactly like the one C had.

The packet says that the saw cuts wood, bone and plastic tubing. I am not a surgeon or a big meat eater and my plumbing is complete so as long as it
cuts through the prunings that are drying on the patio and dead rose stems
I shall be a happy old boy !

  1. Looks a bit lethal to me - shall not show it to the farmer - he is a sucker for mens' toys of this kind.

  2. My husband has one and swears by it.

    1. Thank you Janet, I hope Pat reads your comment.
Mrs H thinks that I shall get hours of pleasure from it .

  3. I use one of those at the nursery - and at that price (less than 10 bucks, right?) what a deal! Glad you have one to call your own - I am a bit envious! ;)

    1. Thanks Carol €2.99 converts to $3.35 and all thanks to Lidl !
Now if only this storm would abate I would nip outside and trim the dead stems on rose bush.

    2. Now that's a real deal! Ahhh, looking forward to spring pruning myself - we have a ways to go yet. Another 4-6 inches of snow predicted this weekend.

    3. We rarely get snow of that depth. Although having said that there is some forecast, with temperatures of 2 to 5 degrees C, will be rather cold with fresh to strong, southwest to west winds persisting. Showers, some wintry, will occur in the western half of the country but the east will be mainly dry, with frost in sheltered places. These rather cold, breezy and showery conditions will persist through Monday also; the bulk of the showers will still occur in the west but some will penetrate further east also.
Am not un-layering any clothing just yet br'rr

    4. I think it is almost crueler when you have the weather you're having - you know, you think it's spring and then that frosty/blustery weather (which is why I usually say March is the cruelest month)- soooo close but yet still so far away! As I sit here, I am wearing two pairs of pants, three long-sleeved shirts, a fleece pullover, and a hat! I know what you're saying!
Having some more coffee and enjoying the slow sunny day. Will sit out on the back porch in a minute and just smile with the sun!

    5. No sun here Carol.
I can hear the wind continuosly howling & screaming at times despite the double glazing and our stove is tipping away throwing out the heat keeping us at steady 20deg C.

  4. I don't think I will show this post to Pete, he is a sucker for all tools. My stuff is apparently all junk but Pete's workshop is full of stuff that may come in handy! His idea of heaven is a good old fashioned hardware shop :) xxx

    1. Oh well Pete is a man after me own heart then because I have often repaired or created something from discarded items - much to the amazement of Mrs H.
There is nothing like an old style hardware shop or even someone else's shed and in a neighbouring county there is a Sunday market where you can find old tools, new tools and strange looking equipment it is a joy to visit Clara market.

  5. I have had a similar one for years. It is wonderful and it is amazing just how big some of the branches are that I have cut with it. Happy pruning.

    1. If you would put your glasses on you would see that it is a saw not a knife

  7. Ahhh now i saw a serated knife! But vinyl informs me i have demeaned its status by calling it a knife & that it is a saw!
I was unaware of the hieracy in the kniife & saw world! ;)
Vinyl however was very much in awe & looking forward to dual sawing on the patio!!

    1. Your apologies are accepted Ms Snapdragon !
'hieracy' ? Do you mean hierarchy or are you rewriting the dictionary :) ???

There will be no dual sawing on the patio - I shall lounge in the sunshine (hopefully) with a glass of my favourite beverage and watch Vinyl perform :)

    2. I do indeed but my brain has been reduced to mush today its the chilly north wind & my efforts to tidy the garden it has blown straight in my ear & out the otherside! I coukd have done with your saw for some tasks!

    3. Sorry to read of your plight my dear, I was going to say it could happen to anyone but it is an extremely rare condition....
You will have to wait until May for the saw - that's if your Pops can get one.
