A DAY OF DELIGHTS

The day started at about 4-30 a.m, as it always does whenever the First Light filters through the curtains. My time of rising varies throughout the year, subjected as I am to the Sun. The one blessing is that now that I am retired I can always slip back into bed for a short sleep.

The Waning Crescent at 5-00 this morning 26th April.
Sunrise was at 6-10. We are approx GMT -30 minutes.

Our bathroom goddess Boann.

We have given our bathroom a going over (a make over) and she who has been gracing the wall above our bath was included in the process. Mrs H gave her |(Boann) a repaint plus with the addition of crystals, pearls and shells. In candlelight she positively glows
giving the setting a peaceful atmosphere, whilst one relaxes in a hot bath.

A 6 year old Pear Tree

I have never seen so much blossom on our pear tree, unfortunately if we are to have any decent sized fruit, we shall have to drastically remove many of the small pears. For  I think that it were let go then many of it's slender branches would break off.

A macro shot of a pear floret.

While  taking a few photo's of the tree I was unable to resist the beauty of the floret.

A mixed fruit cheesecake.

This last photo is actually some research. That Mrs H and I felt that we had to undertake, in order to fully prepare for our visitors who will be descending on us early next month.
Our unanimous verdict is that this cheesecake is one of the finest that either of us has ever tasted. In a word it is truly Sumptuous!

So much so that I am wondering if it might be too rich for them and am considering
whether it is possibly a Health and Safety issue. I shall be guided on this by the blog readers comments.

  1. Well grandpa Heron it is a risk that the younger heron generations are willing to take, particularly the wee fledgling heron who has developed a taste for the sweeter things in life ..... Hmmm i wonder where he has aquired that from??? X

    1. I am almost lost for words Snapdragon however, I shall guided by the wise and more discerning readers of this blog.

      ps Snapdragon -
We might be persuaded if the younger Herons were to bring some Clotted Cream with them...... eh ?

    2. I think an amicable exchange of goods could be the resolution! However a bringing together of the goods could be better??

    3. Well may be Snapdragon, though I do think you might want to pay heed to John W's remarks too m'dear.

  2. Indeed I feel that you consult with the powers to be over this, after all in this 'sue at any cost ' culture we all live in these ludicrous days methinks that too rich a cheesecake should only be attempted whilst over a certain age and of course ensuring that the correct H&S precautions and protective clothing are worn....ie flat cap n braces.

    1. Thanks for your advice John. Do you suppose that we ought to insist on them wearing gaiters an boots to go with the flat cap 'n' braces ?

    2. Being midlanders we don't possess flat caps n braces but can don a nifty wooly hat & wellies if that suffices?

    3. My dear man you mean these are not standard issue? I'm thinking your vastly under prepared for serving of such potentially tricky legally binding dessert. May I suggest you try serving something less risky, perhaps shortbread biscuits, as a breaking in process gradually over the next few.years working up to cheesecake?
P's welding gloves and mask are in the post incase you go with the cheesecake.

    4. Thanks John. I think it might be safer if Mrs H and I eat the cheesecake ourselves and allow them to watch us from out in the garden.

    6. Funny! How you should mention about grass because due to all this rain tis a bit long and I was remembering yesterday what a good job he made of it last time...... thanks for volunteering him.
May be Dave on his farm down in Cork could make use of him too ?

  4. Love your early morning photos, unfortunately (or perhaps not), I'm a night person, I sleep late and stay up late. My only chance of seeing the early morning sky is to stay up all night.

    1. Well Janet, thankfully we are all different thank goodness and quite honestly am glad of that because the early mornings are so wonderfully quiet. That is until just before dawn when all of the birds do their Dawn Chorus.

  6. Haha, I love the comments here! firstly, may I say your pear floret is just beautiful! I've also noticed the abundance of blossom this year, by the way. As to the cheesecake, I was going to suggest the same thing as you about avoiding risk by eating it all yourselves. That way you would be conducting a noble sacrifice as well, but it seems Snapdragon has other ideas :)

    1. Very nice to hear from you Val. Especially that you enjoyed the craic/banter that is going on, by adding some of your own :-)
Snapdragon has particular bent of humour which is similar to my own and as for food well.......... ! :-)

  7. I love mornings, the peace and quiet, the creatures waking and the sun shining on plants. We have plenty of blossom too, seems to be a great year.
I have considered the risks of this cheesecake (having training in risk management so I'm sure you should take me very seriously) and I conclude that the cheesecake is too dangerous to be left for visitors and should be entirely eaten by yourselves.

    2. Hmmmmm snapdragon is not liking the general concensus & the subsequent consuming of exhibit A ....however there is still time to make exhibit B!!!!

    3. Tut, tut Snap are you saying that you will not abide by the democratic decision concerning this particular cheesecake.?

  8. Ahhh but that particular cheesecake is no more .... New cheesecake requires new vote ...... I will be building an excellent defence case in the meantime to win votes!!

    1. Yes.
I shall have to concede on this, even though doing so goes completely against goes against the majority.
