LACK OF COMMENTS - NOT MY FAULT !
An unseen gremlin at work
There is a glitch, an anomaly, occurring on-line when I try to leave a comment on some peoples’ blogs.
This is something which is most annoying and beyond my capabilities to fix. No matter which way I send in the comment, even though my words appear on the blog, they disappear as soon as I log out !
Now, for some reason this problem is not affecting all of the blogs that I correspond with on a regular basis, only some of them.
And I am not alone in this for several of my friends have the same problem when trying to leave a comment on my blog.
Personally it is like having a gremlin on my shoulder who is making decisions for me without making any consultation!
I have tried to contact Google about this problem but all to no avail and my guess is that they are far to busy to make a reply.
So if you my blogging friends have not seen a comment from me in a while it is not that I am ignoring you, it is that my comment has been stopped by the Google Gremlin :)
What I'm having trouble with is I have to select publish several times to get it to publish. I'm use to selecting and immediately leaving the page. If I do that it doesn't publish. I have to select publish several times and then wait for my comment to disappear.
ReplyDeleteIt is all very annoying Janet isn't it on how the 'unseen techies' can make changes to the system without showing any regard for the user.
DeleteI've noticed that on clicking on "publish" a tiny message appears in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen saying "waiting for blogger.com" and sometimes you have to wait for several seconds. I presume if you click on the next item on your reading list then you may lose the comment. Why such a straightforward procedure is suddenly taking so long I don't know.
ReplyDeleteI cannot say that I have seen or noticed that John, although there is now a delay before publishing an incoming comment.
DeleteI've noticed that Blogger is very slow on publishing the comments right now. So one must have patience. Also, have you checked to see if comment verification is in play on some blogs? That's when you have to check the box that you're not a robot before the comment will be published or otherwise answer some stupid little question. Comment verification seems to appear and disappear quite randomly, in my observation.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for your comment Debra.
DeleteUnfortunately nether of them make any difference for the very annoying Gremlin still steps in !
It is a relief to see that you and others are having problems. For the past week, when I click on publish I have to do so about a dozen times before it actually obeys my command.
ReplyDeleteI actually did not think it was just me Pat. I know that blogspot provides us with a free blog however,
Deletethey also make use of our content too their advantage and what they fail to recognise is that politeness and good manners actually costs nothing.
Therefore all they have to do is put out a notice saying we are tweaking the system and you may have problems for a few weeks and then we bloggers would all understand.
Agreed!
DeleteThank you Toni
DeleteSame here but I have Pandora playing in the background so I just tap my fingers or get up and dance! Frustrating!
ReplyDeleteNo music for me Toni. I just look at the falling rain and swear a lot :)
DeleteYes, I've been having the same issue - pressing publish results in a delay with not a lot happening for a few seconds, then the page updates suddenly. For me it's with chrome browser.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment Simon.
DeleteHi Mel - it seems that patience is a virtue ... as I watch on the left hand side for it to take the comment ... occasionally they still whizz through - but sometimes I just need to go in and out again - good luck and you've been successfully by me - thank you !! Cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteWell, yes I have had no problem in posting on your blog and equally with a few of the others.
DeleteThank you for commenting Hilary
Interestingly yours went thru straight away ... now i have to wait for you to approve it !!
ReplyDeleteAny delay with me posting up your comments is often because I am away doing other things you know,
Deletelike sleeping something that I practise daily :)
I think it's quite obvious - you forgot to feed the Gremlin! Try bribing it with peanut butter ice cream, or pistachio pickles and see what happens!
ReplyDeleteHa' ha' ha' a very good idea Wendy :)
DeleteComments are accepted very slowly on Blogspot for some reason. You hit publish and wait and wait and wait and wait. It appears to always finally work, but you wouldn't know anything's happening. I'm about to press publish now... and then I will wait and wait and wait...
ReplyDeleteIt makes me wonder whether a third person is over sighting the comments before passing them on
Deletefor publication and if they are not passed the comment is not published - this might seem like paranoia but for sure it is not beyond the bound of a probable explanation is it.
Me not worrying about google and their gremlins, friend H ... Google is still my favourite search engine, but I also know that Big Brother is watching our every move that way ... but then again, if we have nothing to hide there is no reason to worry, hmmm? ... Anyway ... Love always from deep freeze country, cat.
ReplyDeleteHello Cat !
DeleteYes you are spot on with your comments.
I am not worried, have just a bit of frustration tinged with a touch of anger. For I enjoy leaving comments on other peoples blog just as I enjoy receiving them.
It's obviously a general Google problem at the moment. I've tried using various browsers and it's the same on all. The fastest time I have clocked this morning for a comment to be published is 17 seconds (which is slow when you are waiting for the computer if not slow when you are waiting for a bus). The slowest was so slow I made a coffee. Oddly I've just started a post on the same topic. I wonder if Google will take any notice.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Graham !
DeleteI knew when posting this that I was not the only person effected by slow or impossible to leave comments.
And you ask will Google take any notice, it would be good to say yes of course they care about us bloggers
but I very much doubt that either of us will receive any response.
Instead of using your ID try to click on the comment tab as anonymous. You can then still sign your comment. For some reason this allows me to comment on blogs which delete anything that I try to comment on using my normal ID.
ReplyDeleteThank you for that suggestion Gardener !
DeleteOh dear Mel, sorry about the gremlins. Yes agree with other blogger comments above, it's taking much longer than before and there is a delay that never used to happen. Hope you get it sorted soon.
ReplyDeleteThank you Suzie, am sure it will all eventually come right ... suspicions aside... not though that we shall ever be informed.
DeleteOh how annoying, Mel! I just wonder, though. Are you commenting on a laptop or on a tablet or phone. I have noticed my comments disappear if I do them on my iPad, but if I comment on my laptop, everything works just fine. Maybe it's not this with you, but I thought I'd mention it as it might be an operating system glitch.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your input Val. I can assure you that the glitch has nothing to do with my equipment it is all to do with Google and its operating system.
