An Almost Village

On a green field with a stand of trees where hens once pecked, a tented market blossomed, a street of stalls, an almost village; with a Baker, a Willow Weaver, a Candle Maker, a Poetic Rhymer, a Potter, a Framer, a Soap Maker and a Pizza Purveyor all mixed in between arts and crafts persons, knitters, garment makers and a Wildfood Mistress.

Then came the comers and goers, customers, chatterers, the Happy Sunday People and nosey-parker photographers clicking away quietly.
Yes, it was a resounding success - Woodfield’s of Birr first Cottage Market which will be held on the second Sunday of every summer month at eleven o’clock.

    1. Hello Thelma thanks for leaving a comment, I really enjoyed myself tottering around with the camera taking odd shots which I refrained from publishing... ha ha ha!

  3. This looks fabulous. We have a similar one every first Sunday of the month in Frome (Somerset). The roads are closed to traffic and the town centre given over to market stalls and live music. I hope your summer days will not be wet ones :)

    1. Thank you for the comment Bella.
Given that this Ireland and we are noted for our moist weather, then it would be an oddity to have every second Sunday in the month to be a dry one however, we shall live in hope.

What a lovely post of "An Almost Village"...!! After a few weeks of 'heavy' going I have to tell you how much I enjoyed seeing the various small tents and stalls..selling various wares..! I've been to a few of them in England & Cardiff..and always enjoyed them immensley...this is the way to shop I think! Sadly we don't have these types of things over here, well, sort of, but not nearly with the same variety and never with home-made foods. The good folks at Health Canada make sure small vendors can't operate, so the public can instead be made ill, by protecting corporate interests and their plastic foods instead.

    1. Thank you for the comment Jack. I presume that your government is under the influence of the US in the protection of Corporate Companies !

  6. I love this sort of market. I would rather buy from a small trader than a large supermarket/chain - better quality usually. And you can't beat homemade cake xxx

  7. The pictures could have been of a craft/farmers/country market anywhere in New Zealand and probably the South of England and even, on odd occasions, on the Isle of Lewis (with more guy ropes as protection against the wind. They are fascinating. I am, of course, always one of the "nosey-parker photographers" to whom you refer and of whom, I assume, you are also one.

  8. These markets are just wonderful, aren't they, Mel? It's lovely to see craftsman and small traders getting the chance to sell their special wares. They are always nicer than mass-produced products. I can imagine it is very popular too. I'm glad you are a nosey-parker photographer as you have given us such a lovely image of this event :) xx
