BIRTHDAY SURPRISE

I heard a noise, the clink of the post box lid. In fact it awakened me from my slumber and I thought “There ought not to be any postal delivery it being a Saturday" even though it is my 73rd birthday.

So I quickly threw on my dressing gown went outside and opened the box and this is what I found.

Not our correct address by any means. It is though our Otherworld address known by the good-people

I turned over the envelope to see who the sender was and sure enough it was from my friends in the otherworld.

Look they even have their own postal
service too

The front cover of the card.

Inside is Hazel holding a heart

On the back he is waving goodbye.
This is one of the joys of having friends in
the otherworld.

I am sure that they are about in Yorkshire because I have heard Hazel talking about how prolific his family are in rural areas of the UK.

  17. Hi Mel - what a wonderful surprise ... I'd have been bouncing up and down with happiness to receive that card too ... Lovely to have your 73rd on a Saturday ... and I hope you've been having a wonderful weekend - I was shatteringly woken in the middle of the night with huge flashes and enormous crashes ... which I hope you did not have to wake you this morning .. the gentle bash of the letter box sounds much more pleasant.

I'm joining you in the middle of the week ... and will be celebrating blog wise then ...

Have a very happy year ahead and many more thereafter ... and lots of joy today - cheers Hilary

    1. Hello Hilary !
You are so right a Saturday is a good day to have ones birthday on and I do feel that today is a continuation of yesterday. Mind you my 70th started on a Wednesday at 3pm and continued until the early hours of following Sunday - one does have to be fit :)
Thank you very much for your warm wishes. Am looking forward in making reciprocal birthday comments to your good self in a few days time.

  22. I think Irish posties are well used to deciphering vague addresses that mean something only to the locals. It happens a lot in Northern Ireland as well, where there are still many people who use the old townland addresses and live somewhere like "Carrickbeg, Ballynafeegan".

    I love the card!

    1. Thanks Nick - you do realise that no postie delivered that card, it being a Saturday and there's no delivery down South on that day.
I guess you are somewhere on the Ards Peninsula ?

    2. I work in Newtownards but I live in East Belfast. We still get post deliveries on Saturdays, I'm glad to say.

    3. I know both of those places and Newtownards more so as I used to visit friends there when I lived in Bangor.
