The day started warm sunny and dry with a light breeze from the south west which did not bode well. We did however, make a visit to our nearest Garden Centre to select a new blue pot and some perennial plants - a selection of Pansies, yellow and some purplish one with faces, and a dark purple Salvia Amstad with a warm scent.
On returning home Mrs H had a light lunch with a half an hour to settle her digestion; all the while I was feeling quite anxious as a large grey cloud was gradually creeping towards us. My ears were picking up some faint yet distant rumblings, which could have been from a far off tractor, yet my mind was telling me otherwise.
So I went out and started filling the new pots that we bought yesterday with two compost mixtures, namely John Innes No 2 loam compound and Erin multi compost with a unique reduced peat blend - whatever that means. Horticulture is not my mien and I will leave it to the experts to inform me.
Soon I was joined by Mrs H and her work began, replanting the bulbs she retrieved from the front garden before the new stones were laid. It will be interesting to see when the flowering season starts next year what the bulbs are! There are daffodils, snowdrops of two varieties, different coloured croci and some yellow flowers that look a bit like daffs and are perhaps Jonquils but which bulb is which?

A few drops of sparse rain fell but we carried on with our tasks until a loud rumble was heard and larger spots fell, so we dived indoors. The rain stopped and we returned to carry on with our work under a dark, grey, threatening sky then a flash of lightening really did disturb us. We scurried indoors yet again this time to disconnect the computer. Several years ago, under similar circumstances, we almost lost a Mac when an electric cable nearby was struck by lightening and the hard drive fried. The CD Player was a total write-off too, so these days we disconnect at source.
I'm hoping that we might get a dry spell tomorrow in order to finish the job. Perhaps I should consult the local weather witch for her help in this matter and that entails taking a bottle of gin with me for I understand she uses it by some method to work her magic.
Well that's all for now. So it only leaves me to wish you all A Joyful Autumnal Equinox.
Please leave a comment for it is your comments that I get encouragement from to write more blogs - thanking you in anticipation.

I love hearing the rustle of dry autumn leaves on the ground, especially at night. Wishing you and your wife a blessed Autumn Equinox!
Thank you for the Equinox wishes. Today will be our last too hot day. Tomorrow begins a time of 70F days. I hope you will report on the bulb situation next spring!
All good wishes for the Autumn Equinox indeed - lovely here but we are set to receive your spots of rain eer long.
I also disconnect all electrical equipment at source when storms come or threaten, that includes my Wifi and my Sky receiver. I have experience of an electric typewriter that suddenly commenced typing of its own accord during a storm although unplugging of things goes back to my childhood where we always did this and were not allowed near the telephone during a storm. Greetings. Rachel
We have had a couple of beautiful days and I, too, have started clearing out my garden which has gone mad this year with all the rain after the warm May, I have also been clearing weeds from the area of stones like yours. I love the cobalt pots: they harmonise yet contrast so well with the landscape. It's always exciting seeing what bulbs pop up. I have an area I call my 'bulbarium' and every year I get surprised by what pops up. Because all my bulbs are over by late Spring I have planted Rozanne Geraniums which, unlike other geraniums, don't spread. However when they flower they cover a large area and all the bare bulb earth has a summer and autumn covering.
For me one of the joys of blogging is the comments whether they be expressing admiration, agreement, opinion, advice or, indeed, disagreement. I understand why some people have comment moderation enabled although, for me, it takes away the spontaneity and, often, the ability to see what has already been said (but not published). However another, for me, is this comment format which means that I can't easily go back through the post to see things I might have forgotten or overlooked or about which I simply want to remind myself. Please may I make a plea for you to alter to embedded comments (Dashboard>Settings>Posts, comments and sharing> Comment location>Embedded).
Debra : The rustle of dry leaves here is more than often a squelch ! thanks for commenting.
Thickethouse : 70deg F is a comfortable temp. That was ours on Friday at 21.5 C it has since dropped to 15C with the onset of rain that seems to be in for a few days. Good to hear from you.
Weaver : Thank you! I was a bit previous for this year it is actually on 23rdSept - but the thought counts :-)
Rachel : I well recall of the do's and don't's of what to do when lightening rolls around. I knew one family who covered their mirrors, another emptied their pockets of all metal coins and of others who hid under the kitchen table. For myself if it was a night I would open the curtains and enjoy the display.
Graham : May thanks for your two comments. I have made a note of that particular geranium and shall make enquiries about purchasing one, for it sounds ideal for us to put at the entrance of our southern driveway. In regards to comments I chose to moderate them because on my first blog (now defunct} it was attracting a lot of abusive comments.
Yes, Heron, I do understand that is the reason why many people moderate comments. It wasn't a criticism but just an explanation of how I feel about it when commenting.
No harvest here yet, not grain not garden as too wet or too cold or both, friend H. Wishing you a very good and bountiful autumn season. No comments in my blogs from you for a long time … oh, well … Anyhow, be well, eh? Love, cat.
That sounds like a magical project.
Graham : I know ! Yet I never the less to I needed to give an explanation.
Cat. : You are correct I have. not visited your blog or left comments and the reason has to do with Google who are once again limiting me on leaving comments and I have no idea how to over come the problem. Plus -for some time now I have been twisting internally as to wether to recommit myself entirely to the first love of my life to paint her beauty in colour ! Tortured, as I wonder wether there is room or strength for literary expression as well. So forgive me my absence please xxx
I am always quick to forgive as I am a sinner so I know about forgiving a lot, friend H. You talking about colour really touched me as I only see black and white mostly and sometimes purple and blue. Wishing you a very happy painting season … orange, yellow, bright red … that would be nice :) Love, cat.
