The Talented One

A Good Woman

The title of this blog post could quite easily have been 'In Praise of a Good Woman' or 'Mrs H at Work' or various other themes in praise of my life partner.

It is not easy working one these mini diggers but here she is with a smile on her face enjoying every moment with such apparent ease.

We needed to remove a low dry sandstone wall. Which I had built about twenty or so years ago with the idea of making a rockery and waterfall - oh the plans of mice and men! Completion was put on the long finger, I ought to have known better. So we have now used the stone on a far better project, namely as base for our recycling bins.

What special talents do your partners have ?

The artist at work! My partner is a man of many talents. Using heavy equipment is NOT one.

All I did was to turn my back and there she was as happy as larry.

I have now lost both my partners. The first one painted divine water colours, made musical instruments and played them, would turn his hand to any building project and was indeed very talented. My dear farmer, who died two years ago, lived, ate and breathed farming in all its aspects - it wasn't just his job it was his life.

You have been very fortunate with your choice of partners Weaver, indeed then you also must be a special person!

The woman who owned this house before I bought it operated one of those huge cranes that you see working on tower blocks - I'm sure that, given the opportunity, Mrs H would be up for that gig too.

I have just read out your comment to Mrs H and her reply is " Not with her back and fear of heights thank you!"

My husband and I used to farm grain/ hay and beef for 25 years. We were working as a team. I helped with sowing and harvesting, he negotiated the market and repaired the machines. The cattle were my domain, and over time I almost turned into veterinarian, but he was always there to help when muscle power or just a shoulder to cry on was needed … and in the Winter time he also doubled as my very special foot warmer … smiles … Much love, cat.

Just what a man wants to be used as a foot warmer for icy cold feet - Not ! Still it amuses me to say don't they have hot water bottles in Canada :-) ?

I knew you would say that, friend H … smiles … yes we do have hot water bottles in Canada, but the live ones are just more interesting cuz they make noises like shrieking and giggling and such … Love, cat.

I bet your missus is good on those amusement arcade hook-and-grab machines. My missus is good at baking cakes, making quilts and nursing people through health troubles. She's also an expert at ironing so I leave her to that!

Thanks Ita.

"That she hates ironing with a vengeance! That she is fairly good with a pick and shovel and likes decorating"
Her culinary skills are great and her driving skills are good. So to is her dress designing and sewing.

That looks so much fun! Mrs H is a woman after my own heart. I prefer power tools to powder puffs :) I would love to have a go on that machine.
